Girls basketball roundup: Denison loses; Howe wins in OT

Emily Thompson had 11 points but Denison suffered its first loss of the season in a close contest with Denton, 43-41, at home on Tuesday night.
Symonne Galloway added eight points and Icis FInley and Kendra Robbins each chipped in six points for the Lady Yellow Jackets, who opened the season on Saturday with a victory over Bonham.
Clarissa Moore and Carly Bader each scored four points apiece for Denison (1-1), which plays in the Ponder Tournament on Thursday.
Jamicca Brown scored 21 points for Denton.
Gunter 61, No. 16 Celina 36
GUNTER -- Joey Baliey had 25 points, 14 rebounds and four assists and Carly Smith added 13 points, six rebounds and two steals as Gunter defeated Class 3A No. 16 Celina in its season-opener.
Amber Keatts finished with nine points, six rebounds and three steals for Gunter, which hosts Farmersville at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Kenzie Newman led Celina with 16 points while Maryah Vick added seven points.
Whitewright 48, Anna 42
WHITEWRIGHT -- Haley Langford scored 16 points as Whitewright remained undefeated on the season with a non-district victory over Anna.
Hanna Hames added 15 points and Skylar Greenwood chipped in nine points for Whitewright (3-0), which plays at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Valley View.
Shantel Ramsey led Anna with 26 points.
Pottsboro 52, Van Alstyne 35
POTTSBORO -- Ashley Thomas had 15 points to lead three Lady Cardinals in double figures as Pottsboro defeated Van Alstyne in non-district action.
Courtni Bauer added 12 points and Megan Whitfield scored 11 points for Pottsboro.
Bailiey Offill scored 20 points and Kendra Cook chipped in nine points for Van Alstyne.
Honey Grove 56, Cooper 27
HONEY GROVE -- Deosha Mackey had 29 points, 10 rebounds and three of Honey Grove's 20 steals in a non-district win over Cooper on Tuesday.
Regan Rickman added nine points and three steals and Jessica Brigham chipped in six steals, five points and four assists for Honey Grove (2-0), which led 25-2 after one quarter.
Sham Beard also had four steals as Honey Grove outscored Cooper, 38-16, in the paint.
Howe 45, Pilot Point 43 (OT)
HOWE -- Ashley Davis' basket with a minute left in overtime gave Howe a non-district victory over Pilot Point.
Davis scored a game-high 21 points while Paige Potter added six points for Howe (3-0).
Kaley Uptergrove had 10 points to lead Pilot Point.
Bells 50, Ector 33
BELLS -- Macie Robinson scored 14 points and Hannah Scoggins added 12 points and eight rebounds as Bells defeated Ector in non-district play on Tuesday night.
Lauren Moore finished with 13 points and Kirsten Keene chipped in seven points and seven steals for Bells (3-0), which faces Detroit at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Campbell Tournament.
Mallory Mayo had 16 points and Kristina Williams scored 10 points for Ector (0-3).
No. 1 TCS 67, Prince of Peace 44
Lauren Kirby and Ashley Miller each recorded double-doubles as Texoma Christian (3-0) cruised to a home win.
Kirby finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Eagles, while Miller added 16 points and 10 assists. Delaney Ortega chipped in with 10 points for Lady Eagles return to action on Friday night at Krum at 6:30 p.m.
Colbert 50, Achille 26
ACHILLE, Okla. -- Mercedes Jones had 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals and Colbert forced 19 first-half turnovers in a victory over Achille.
Tara Andrews finished with nine points and three steals and Morgan Wright had eight points and four rebounds for Colbert (4-0), which does not play until Dec. 1 at Byng.
