What was the name of the character from Greek mythology that used her beauty to lure unsuspecting soul's into her lair?
No, not Heidi Montag.
Anyway, the Bulldogs fell into a similar trap in Bells on Tuesday night, relying on the three-point shot to fuel their offense, getting away from an inside game that served them so well the first time these teams met.
One free throw late in the first quarter by Zack Wilks and four, three-point shots by the Bulldogs gave Howe a 13-11 edge at the end of one and the outside game was making it look easy. Matt Dowlen drained a pair and Jordan Gray and Chase Fountaine scored from long distance while Bells was pounding away on the inside.
Gray's second three-pointer of the night opened the Howe scoring in the second quarter but three possessions later, Bells had a lead that they never surrendered.
Bud Pedigo and Derek Elk got easy looks from inside and a Pedigo shot at the end of the period sent the Panthers to the break with a 30-24 lead.
Fountaine sent in a three-ball to close out the Howe scoring in the half with 18 of its 24 points coming from beyond the arc.
Casey Davis had scored midway through the second quarter off a nice ball fake and Kenny Herbert got his only first half basket to follow Davis' shot.
Bells boosted its lead to 16 points after a big run in the third period as Pedigo and his sub David Dane were getting easy looks from inside the paint.
Howe's 1-2-2 press was not having much success in stopping the Panther attack on the defensive side.
A basket by Herbert midway through the final period cut the lead to 15 but Bells kept up the offensive pressure, going on an 11-0 run to put the game away.
Russell Wortham scored the final Howe basket on, what else, a three-pointer.
Howe will attempt to stop its three game slide as they host Leonard tonight and the varsity boys should tip off at 8:30.
