Rumors swirl through northwest Grayson County that USC coach Lane Kiffin is interested in the head football-coaching job at Savoy High School. Kiffin is said to have contacted Savoy Athletic Director Dusty Burkhalter and expressed his views.

Kiffin's agent Scott Boras said that the Trojan coach was enamored with the laid back lifestyle in the town and had recently viewed some online real estate offers. Even though Kiffin and his wife Layla had purchased a home in a gated community in Malibu, near the beach, Boras said that Kiffin found a doublewide fixer upper that really appealed to his tastes.

"It's just north of the landfill and you can sit out on the porch and watch the traffic go by." Kiffin said.

Boras is exploring options on opting out of the USC deal so that his client can take his "dream" job even knowing that he will be skewered on the sports radio talk shows and magazines.

Speaking of sports magazines, if you're a regular reader of SI or ESPN The Magazine, you know the drill. You can't get five pages into it before you are bombarded with ads promoting fitness.

Now don't get me wrong, I firmly believe in trying to be healthy, eating right, exercise all that, but do I want to be "shredded" or "cut". What's all that about. The only six-pack I'm even vaguely interested in would be an occasional Bud Light.

Like I said, I'm not opposed to exercise, I got a warning ticket just the other day from Chuck Milner while taking my stroll on the US 75 service road. The only "shredding" I want to hear is from a Fender Strat.

Column Interruption: I often wonder why kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

As very few of you know, considering the number of followers I currently have, at the beginning of the school year I opened a twitter account. Just to keep you, the Van Alstyne-Howe sports fan, up to date on the latest sports scores from the two schools. One difficulty we have in posting "tweets" is our current cell phone equipment. It does not have a QWERTY keypad for text messaging. It takes us forever just to say hello. Another problem we discovered, we can't spell correctly while texting. The other night we spelled the city of Leonard- Leanord. Yeh, our computer spell check just lit up, but we have no such device on our cell phone. It's difficult to text with a dictionary in one hand and the phone in the other- while your driving.

Anyway, you can go to twitter.com and search for jacwalk and on most game nights, catch the final score and anything else of interest we can cram into 140 characters.

Column Interruption #2: Did you know that Cy Young (major league pitcher 1890-1911) Never won a Cy Young award.

Know there's not too many Marquette University basketball followers in Van Alstyne but to bring you up-to-date. VA alumnus Brent "Buzz" Williams' team last Saturday got a signature road win over the Connecticut Huskies, the same team that had just beaten Texas.Playing with a group of short, over-achieving underclassmen, Williams has seen his team fall to four, ranked teams by a total of 10 points.

Marquette plays in the Big East conference, arguably the third toughest league on Division I basketball, and last season his 25-10 team made it to the NCAA tournament. Things were looking bleak for the Eagles until Saturday's win and hopefully the win over Uconn will be the start of bigger and better things for Buzz's boys.

They are never on TV down here so you have to catch them on ESPN 360.com

This is called the Column because, as of this writing, we have no corporate sponsors. If you would like to become a sustaining, or even a founding sponsor, just contact us at our twitter page and we will tell you where to drop off the unmarked bills in small denominations. That's jacwalk @Twitter search.
