After 27 years in the restaurant business, Sofia Sali is bringing her old world recipes to the Van Alstyne area.

Sali's restaurant in Van Alstyne actually opened in late November. The store joins four other Sali's restaurants in the North Texas area, including one in Denison and two in the Dallas area.

Sali said the reason to stop in is what any restaurant is known for.

"It think it's the good food," she said. "We buy the best and the sell the best. It's about quality for with us."

The menu is packed with delicious Italian recipes from dating back to Sali's great-grandparents.

For appetizers, diners can munch on everything from fried cheese to garlic bread with prosciutto Italian-aged ham and mozzarella to fried calamari. Appetizers starts at around $4 and go up to $7 for the calamari.

There's also a selection of salads to choose from to eat as a meal or as a side.

The entrees are varied and wonderfully Italian. There's the classic Italian dishes of chicken marsala and chicken piccata. There's also plenty of fried pasta dishes like lasagna and manicotti. Under the Sal's Specialities items on the menu are sausage and pepper parmigiana, fettuccini siciliano, linguini with red clam sauce and chicken capriole, among others. Sal's Specialties are all under $10.

For dessert, the restaurant serves cheesecake, canoli and tiramisu among other sweet treats.

There's also plenty of subs, sandwiches and pizzas to pick up and take home or eat at Sali's.

Tuesday through Friday, the restaurant also offers a lunch special for less than $6. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Sali decided to open the restaurant in Van Alstyne because "I live one mile from here," she said. She moved to Van Alstyne four years ago from Plano. Before that, she lived in New Jersey.

The restaurant business is a family affair for Sali. Her brothers and sisters own Italian restaurants across the Metroplex, including Frisco, McKinney, Flower Mound and Arlington.

"We are all over," she said. "We all have the old recipes."

Planning a big Super Bowl party? Sali's also caters events with everything on the menu.

"Whatever they want," Sali's said.

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday, opening everyday at 11 a.m. The restaurant closing at 9 p.m. most nights and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
