Howe Girls Basketball Looking Ahead

By Jack Walker

Staff Writer

Say goodbye to Honey Grove and Melissa and let's give a big welcome party for S&S, Callisburg and Pottsboro after the UIL shakeup of District 11-2A girls basketball. Leonard was the third team to leave the old district lineup.

The three newcomers are from District 10-2A and that means they played against playoff teams from Krum, Ponder and Aubrey, and that's a tough league.

Howe has played Callisburg in the NCTC tournament in Gainesville for the past few years and fared well against the Lady Wildcats but they are always a sound team. Gunter will return everyone from last year's District Championship team including Joey Bailey so we know they will be tough. Pottsboro is the big unknown in the room.

Howe finished 7-7 last year, missed the playoffs for the second straight year and coach Derek Lands gets hard to live with when he doesn't get to the post season.

The Lady Bulldogs will be in the thick of the fight in 2010/2011.
