Summer Jam Draws Crowd

With the unmistakable country sounds of Morris McCann and his band drifting from the gazebo at Dorothy Fielder Park, Van Alstyne's second Summer Jam was under way.

Music echoed throughout historic downtown Van Alstyne during the event, hosted by the Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce.

Last Thursday night, Jefferson and Main streets were lined with parked cars, a sure sign that attendance was up from last month's concert, putting smiles on the faces of the chamber board members.

"The weather was perfect, attendance was good," said chamber Vice President Kim DeMasters. "The chamber appreciates that City Manager Bill Herrington and his wife joined us at the Jam."

The enthusiastic audience contributed hoots, hollers and applause as McCann went from old songs to new and back to old.

"We had many young children at the Jam. It was fun watching them dance to the music," DeMasters said.

It was another perfect evening, for both young and old area residents, enjoying the music with friends and neighbors.

The third and final Summer Jam of the season will be Aug. 19. Taking the center stage will be the King's Trail Cowboy Church band.
