Van Alstyne police have received several calls from residents since the city's new animal ordinance went into effect earlier this month.

"We've had complaints about dogs running around at large," said VAPD Lt. Tim Barnes. "Under the new ordinance, a dog not enclosed in a yard must be on a leash."

He added that dogs should wear identification tags as well.

Van Alstyne officers made four alcohol- and drug-related arrests Saturday.

A vehicle was stopped on Henry Hynds Expressway near West Van Alstyne Parkway at about 1:30 a.m. for a traffic violation.

The driver, 30-year-old Christopher Stone of Celina, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

He was taken to the Grayson County Jail.

At about 2:51 a.m., a vehicle was stopped on Kelly Lane for suspicion of drunken driving.

A 53-year-old Bonham man was arrested and charged with a first offense of driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor. He also was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a vehicle was stopped on northbound U.S. 75 near Blythe Road for a traffic violation.

The driver, a 32-year-old Arlington man, was arrested and charged with a first offense of DWI, a Class B misdemeanor.

Just before 8 p.m., a vehicle was stopped on South Preston Avenue near Shreveport.

A 56-year-old Van Alstyne man was arrested and charged with a first offense of DWI, a Class B misdemeanor. He also was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and he had an outstanding warrant from another agency.

On Sunday morning, a traffic stop turned into another drug arrest.

An officer stopped a vehicle on southbound U.S. 75 near F.M. 121. The driver, 20-year-old Robyn Gorton of Sherman, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
