Woman Faces Felony Charges

A Sherman woman faces two felony charges after a traffic stop late Saturday in Van Alstyne.
Van Alstyne police Cpl. Chuck Milner stopped a vehicle shortly before midnight on Kelly Lane near the access road of U.S. 75. The driver, 51-year-old Lisa Naquin of Sherman, had two 13-year-olds in the vehicle with her.
After failing a field sobriety test, Naquin was arrested and charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, a state jail felony.
Naquin was taken to the Grayson County Jail, while the two teens were released to family members.
A drug arrest was made after a traffic stop last Thursday night in the 100 block of West Van Alstyne Parkway.
Morgan Wentz, 23, of Van Alstyne was charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, as well as dirivn gwithout a volid driver's license, a Class C misdemeanor. He also had an outstanding warrant.
Also during the last week, Van Alstyne police:
Arrested a 40-year-old McKinney woman and charged her with a first offense of DWI, a Class B misdemeanor.
Responded to nine incidents.
Received 232 calls for service.
VAPD Lt. Tim Barnes said that the city's code enforcement officer has started issuing citations to residents who violate the city's high-grass ordinance.
"We understood when it rained every day for a couple of weeks, and the last thing we really want to do is issue citations, but it is dry enough now for people to keep their lawns mowed," he said. "The city ordinance says grass cannot be higher than 10 inches."
Barnes also encouraged residents to participate in this year's National Night Out festivities Tuesday, Aug. 3.
